My Bike Tour Of Europe

I plan to travel light considering I’m bringing gear for cooking and camping on the road.

Note: en-route changes to gear noted in red.

The grit

  • The trickiest piece of gear to choose has been a device for blog-posting and photo-uploading. I decided to only bring an iPhone to connect wi-fi spots to the WordPress Blog and to Track My Tour from their respective IOS Apps. I seem to be getting used to the Verbatim Bluetooth keyboard and I’m a much better touch typer than I am a thumb typer.  I’ll transfer photos directly from the Iphone or from the SD card from the camera at a computer terminal on the road.

Clothes and Other

  • Nike sleaveless shirt
  • Icebreaker collared long sleeve
  • Helly Hanson long sleeve base layer – top and bottom
  • 1 pair arm sleevesbase layer
  • 1 pair cargo shorts (soon to be replaced)
  • 1 pair shorts
  • 1 pair of pants
  • 1 headband – donated by Dr. Dave
  • 4 pairs of underwear (mostly underarmour)
  • 4 pairs of socks (all Smartwool)
  • 1 pair each: running shoes, flip-flops
  • 1 REI Rain Shell
  • 1 pair of Scott Rain Pants
  • 1 pair Shower’s Pass rain booties
  • Bathroom stuff: toothbrush, travel-size toothpaste, dental floss, Dr. Bonners soap, travel-size hair gel, razor, shaving cream, nail clippers, tweezers
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses

  • 1 mesh laundry bag
  • 4 1-gallon ziplock bags for dirty laundry and misc. storage
  • Supplements: multi-vitamins

Carrying Weight

  • Each Pannier is about 18 lbs packed and the bike is close to 40 lbs for a total weight of about 75 lbs.  I put all the clothes/bathroom supplies in one pannier and all the camping/electronics in the other.
